I must ask you about W.D. Hockaday..Do you know anything about his technique? What kind of mediums he's using. Loci here on deviantart uses the same technique and I'm dying to know how they do it. If you have any Idea please respond.
Wow, 'tis been ages since I'd post that one, W.D Hockaday and Loci here on deviantart is the same guy..Yeah, it's acrylics and I have experimented with different mediums but've failed to get a similar result..
I was actually under the impression that "loci" is W.D. Hockaday. I'm also really interested and intruiged by his technique, but unfortunately I don't know any more about it than yourself. I'd appreciate to hear from you, though, if you find anything out.
Yeah I realized that a while ago. Me and an art friend at school have been experimenting with acrylics, mixing with vegetable oils, soap, loads of water and stuff..And we came up with a few suggestions to how hockaday does his art..My friend came up with something quite similar to his art with just some acrylics and water on porcelain. Though when painting on porcelain you can't save the result for display...And we have some theories about using some kind of seperator. We havn't got a clue of what kind of seperator though..we tried mixing oil into the acrylic and then adding terpentine or some other thinner..We found out that the acrylic didn't want to bind to the oil though and thus, the same effect wasn't accomplished. We came up with some intriguing results and effects though for later use perhaps, but it wasn't similar to H.D's works -_-. Tough nut to crack.
Hi, i found your inquiry about Loci on google, i too have been searching for his technique, i too have tried all the additives i could come up with when i ran across an old art site, there was a woman on there who took acrylic ink in squirt bottles, and laid it down in lines, puddles, whatever she wanted, sometimes adding sand to the mix. Then she took bubble wrap, crumpled tinfoil, crumpled plastic, whatever would creat texture, place it on the paint, covered it with plywood for 48 hours, and when she took it off, it looked exactly like our friend loci's work, i am currently trying this method, if you are interested, let me know and i will tell you how it turned out.
Wow..Thanks man. I'll get on with my experimenting when i get back to school then...I wonder the added material (tinfoil, crumpled plastic), did she take that of too? I mean, doesn't it get stuck to the acrylic when it dries? Btw, do you have the link to the site?
Godspeed.
cheers
Godspeed.
